In these works Singh was drawn to the colour blue, for ‘its references, its melancholy, its coldness and its absence’. Here the photographer infuses architecture with a nostalgic mood through her use of light, texture and tone. There is a stark contrast between industry as an impersonal subject and the emotions the photographs evoke. This complementarity provides Singh’s Blue Book with a new language: psychological urban landscapes rather than documentary images.
